Unity feature: 2D Rendering Layers

Rendering layers separate lighting choices from sprite draw order. A character can receive its own lights without moving to a different sorting layer.

Use it

  1. Enable Use Rendering Layers in the URP asset, then assign the target objects to a rendering layer.
  2. Select the 2D light and set its Rendering Layers filter to the matching layer.

Requirements and limits

  • Requires the URP 2D renderer. Global 2D lights and volumetric lights affect all rendering layers.
