Custom 2D lights and shadows

Custom 2D lights and shadows give artists more control over a scene.

What changed

Custom providers let programmers define new light and shadow shapes that artists can then adjust in the Inspector. They extend the existing URP 2D components.

Use it

  1. Create a Light2DProvider with a name and mesh, or a ShadowShape2DProvider that supplies a shadow shape.
  2. Select the new provider in the Light Type or Shadow Caster 2D Casting Source field.

Requirements and limits

  • Requires the URP 2D renderer and C# provider code. A static shadow can initialize its shape once instead of updating before every render.
