Unity Hub 4.0.0-beta.2

Official notes

Installs

  1. Feature

Added support for installing custom and pre-release Editor builds from a unityhub:// link. The Hub downloads and installs the build through the normal install flow, lists it beside any official release of the same version, and only accepts builds hosted on Unity's own download sites.

Projects

  1. Fix

Fixed an issue on Windows where opening a project whose Editor was already running outside the Hub showed a false “Project already open” message. The Hub now brings that Editor's window to the front.

    • Windows
  2. Fix

Fixed an issue where the render pipeline of a project created with a Unity 7 Editor showed as unknown.

  3. Fix

Fixed an issue where a project's expanded row showed the Hub's display name for its Unity Cloud project instead of the project's own name.

  4. Deprecation

Removed the dismissible Built-in Render Pipeline deprecation banner from a project's expanded row for Unity 6.5 to 6.7. The row's warning icon still explains the deprecation and opens the project issues dialog, with its Learn more link.

  5. Change

The Projects list now shows a single centered spinner while it first loads.

  6. Fix

Fixed an issue where a thin slice of text appeared beside the Projects list's column settings and project menu buttons at display scales such as 250%.

  7. Change

New Project's template list and Editor version are now locked while a project is being created, so a click can't swap the template mid-create.

  8. Change

The Repository description field in New Project now grows up to four rows as you type.

Templates

  1. Change

The Templates page now waits briefly before showing a spinner, explains a slow scan, and keeps your list on screen during a create, delete, or rescan.

  2. Fix

Fixed an issue where a template deleted during a scan reappeared when the scan finished.

  3. Change

Templates without a preview image now show the generic cube image.

  4. Change

Custom templates are now signed with the right Unity organization, and the Details step offers a Signing organization picker when one is needed.

  5. Change

Saving a project as a custom template now updates that project's custom template count right away.

Source control

  1. Fix

Fixed an issue where connecting an existing project to GitLab showed “Connected” for an account the sign-in had rejected. The Hub now asks you to sign in again and keeps the create button disabled until you do.

  2. Fix

Fixed an issue where connecting an existing project to Unity Version Control could get stuck loading the server location.

  3. Fix

Fixed an issue where creating a project with Unity Version Control could report a failed check-in, or check in a temporary Hub script.

  4. Fix

Fixed an issue where “Resolve in Dashboard” opened the wrong page for a Unity Version Control organization name with a space or special character.

  5. Fix

Fixed an issue where a Unity Version Control repository shown with Expand all stayed plain text instead of linking to its dashboard page.

  6. Fix

Fixed an issue in Add from repository where Try again showed only the repository you had picked, and where choosing a branch while the branch list was loading could leave Add disabled.

  7. Change

The Git LFS help icon now only shows its tooltip, instead of also opening the Git LFS website.

Installs and downloads

  1. Removal

Editors and modules removed outside the Hub, for example with the Unity CLI, now leave the Installs page within a few seconds instead of staying listed until the Hub restarts.

  2. Fix

Fixed an issue where clicking Retry right after starting a download started a second transfer.

  3. Change

The Downloads and activity drawer now grows with the window.

  4. Change

The Downloads and activity message for a synced template now links to the repository instead of showing its raw location.

  5. Fix

On Windows, fixed several issues with the Microsoft Store (MSIX) version of Unity Hub: Restart to update could close the Hub without reopening it, opening the Hub while a previous copy was still closing could start two copies, and switching back to an earlier release channel could take minutes or fail on PCs where PowerShell is restricted by IT policy. Switching back now opens the earlier version within seconds.

    • Windows

Licenses

  1. Fix

Fixed an issue where a license recovery waiting to retry could leave a reopened window stuck on the failed banner.

  2. Fix

Fixed an issue where a failed license list read showed the same error twice.

  3. Fix

Fixed an issue where the folder icon in Add license's license file field didn't open the file picker.

  4. Change

License compliance errors now show the compliance page address or Unity's contact email instead of raw placeholder tags.

General

  1. Change

On Windows and Linux, small text no longer looks stretched vertically. Text now keeps the proportions it had in Hub 3.x.

    • Windows
    • Linux
  2. Fix

Fixed an issue on Windows where some Simplified Chinese characters showed as empty boxes.

    • Windows
  3. Change

Avatars now show your account's profile photo.

  4. Change

On first launch, the Hub now keeps the window position and size from Hub 3.x, and opens at 1280x720 when there is no earlier Hub.

  5. Change

The Hub now accepts the command-line options Hub 3.x accepted, such as --logLevel and --theme, instead of exiting with an error. On Linux .deb and .rpm installs, the release channel setting now explains how to switch channels.

    • Linux
  6. Change

On a deployment where sign-in isn't required, a signed-out user with no Editors installed now gets the first-run Editor install prompt.

  7. Change

Left-clicking the Windows tray icon now opens the Hub window instead of its menu.

    • Windows
  8. Fix

Fixed an issue where opening the Hub from the tray menu or a unityhub:// link did nothing when only the bug reporter was open.

  9. Change

Picking a different update channel or update server in Settings, or clicking Check for updates, now checks for updates right away.

  10. Change

Install, Archive, and Learn pages now show their offline notice as soon as the network drops, instead of up to a minute later.

  11. Change

Get set up now shows a placeholder layout while it loads, instead of a small card that jumps to the full page.

  12. Change

Banners you dismiss now stay dismissed after a restart, and long banner text wraps to two lines.

  13. Change

A Tools failure notification now stays until you dismiss it, and Unity CLI > Open is disabled while a launch is in progress.

  14. Change

The bug reporter's Description and Steps fields now grow up to six rows, keep line breaks typed with an IME, and count the character limit correctly for emoji.

  15. Change

Alert buttons now sit inside their alert, and tooltips and menus over the Get set up and Unity CLI videos now follow their rounded corners.

  16. Improvement

Improved keyboard navigation. Moving focus with Tab or the arrow keys now scrolls the focused control into view, the focus ring stays visible while the mouse rests over the window, and closing a menu or dialog returns focus to what opened it. The search field's clear button, the Projects list platform picker, New Project's initial commit checkbox and visibility options, and the Switch theme submenu now work from the keyboard.

  17. Improvement

Improved screen reader support for New Project's name suggestions and the template cards.

Security

  1. Security

The Hub now downloads the Unity Version Control client only from Unity Version Control's own servers, even when a download redirect points elsewhere.

Pick your Unity version

Unity Releases compares releases against the version your project is on. Picking it now keeps Compare versions focused on what changes between where you are and where you might be going.
